NIKOTINE BEIRUT is a Lebanese-born Canadian singer-songwriter and cabaret artist pioneering a "Queerabia" renaissance. She is best known for her original music, live vocals, cabaret, and the theatrical storytelling show CABARET: The Dancing Djinn, which she co-created with bellydancer Samara to celebrate third-gender Arab art and music.
GENRES: glam rock, mystical cabaret, Arabesque flamenco, Arabian jazz, and disco.
NIKOTINE BEIRUT is the first Mukhannath in centuries, reclaiming a term which came to be a slur back to its original meaning: The Mukhannathun were highly respected musicians and poets of medieval Arabia and Andalusia, known as third-gender, effeminate figures.
